The Zero-G Datafile Series is a series of CD-ROM sample libraries with 1000 samples each one from various sources, typically from other copyrighted works.
History[edit | edit source]
Ed Stratton was an engineer, electronic music producer and a fanatical collector/creator of samples. In 1990 had the idea of creating the world's "first dance music sample CDs" which featured thousands of audio samples & loops. Datafile CDs were never sold with a commercial user license and could only be used "personally" for inspiration.[1]
In 1992, Zero-G had to put a warning to not use bootlegged copies of Datafile 1 because other CDs had copied the samples from it.
"WARNING: DATAFILE ONE was the world's first dance sample-CD (released May '91). At least one other sample CD has appeared containing stolen original ZERO-G samples. Do not fall into the trap of buying the same samples twice !" [2]
